Quick & easy deco idea with poinsettias for the 2nd Sunday of Advent: hard shell, soft core

Hard on the outside, soft on the inside. Nuts have a long-standing tradition at Christmastime and no baked goods could ever be served without them.

They also keep for a long time, which makes them a practical deco article for creating eye-catchers with a harmonious mix of materials. Spontaneous arts & crafts with the kids are also likely to turn out well, as these materials can be found in most households during Christmas season. And in any case, the deco idea can be fashioned in no time.

All you need are a poinsettia, a clay or stoneware deco pot, hazelnuts, peanuts, star anise, cones, hens and chicks, a hot glue gun and glue sticks.

Here's how it's done:

Step 1: Hot-glue the nuts, cones, fruit and succulents in a jumbled mix to the outsides of the clay pot.

Step 2: Place the poinsettia in the decorated pot.

Tip: As such an extravagant pot alone can easily look lost in the living room, it’s always a good idea to make several at a time and display them in groups.
